C-Note photo contest preview. Click for larger view

Help High School Members win $100, and maybe $1,000!

C-Note is accepting entries in our first online photo contest for a prize of $100. The theme for this contest is “What I like to do for free.” Deadline for photo entries is September 10, 2007.

For this first contest only, before the new C-Note is live to your members, we’re inviting your young members, employees and family members (ages 13 to 19) to submit their photos by following these rules and conditions.

The editors of Googolplex and the C-Note Teenage Panel (formerly known as the Youth Editorial Board) will choose up to twelve finalists for the first contest and every subsequent contest.

When the new C-Note debuts in October, visitors (of any age) to C- Note may vote (one vote a day) for the winning photo. This will encourage your young members to come back every day to vote again. They will also want to e-mail a link to C-Note from your credit union web site to their contact list, encouraging them to vote every day. You can help them get out the vote too!

In a year, November of 2008, the winners of the all the previous contests will become the finalists in a contest for a grand prize of $1,000.

In addition to this announcement, we’re posting contest information on the front page of the current C-Note. Make sure your young members and their parents are visiting the front page of C-Note from your web site!

Meet the 2007-08 Youth Editorial Board for AJ’s

Phillip says, "Nothing is more important than being responsible with children."

The new members of the Googolplex Youth Editorial Board are reviewing all the new stories and games we release in the next year, plus giving us valuable input on the new designs for each level.

This month we’re featuring the AJ’s youth board members for 2007-08.

  • Phillip, age 11, from Tallahassee, FL, is a first place winner in forensics, competing against 13-19 year olds! He enjoys video games, but says, “I relish baseball more.”
  • Robert, age 10, from Lafayette, CA loves to read and write stories. He’s even made his own web page! He says, “I really, really like working on the computer.”
  • Brooke, age 13, plays drums with a group called the “Conga Club,” in Helena, MT. She says, “I sing and play songs from Africa.”
  • Madeline, age 11 is in a program for the gifted and talented in Bloomington, MN. “I have very strong opinions of a different view on issues,” she says.
  • Lucy plays clarinet and piano in Forestville, WI. In 2005 she was a student ambassador, traveling to Australia. “Oh yeah,” she adds, “I am obsessed with summer camp!”

Last month we made a typing error in our description for one of the new 5-Spot youth editorial board members, Chloe. She doesn’t live in Mississippi, she lives in Michigan. Thank you United Services Federal Credit Union for catching the error! Here’s the correct information:

Chloe, age 10 plays basketball, volleyball and softball in Temperance, MI. She's earned many badges as a girl scout, and says, "I am honest, dependable and responsible. I will tell my true feelings about the Googolplex stories and games." [That's why we do this!]

Instant poll results – Eat Where?*

Almost one-fourth of Googolplex high school teenagers buy four or more meals a week, which means they’re probably seeing a lot of change pass through their fingers.

Point your youth to Let Compound Interest Work. This C-Note story challenges them to find out how much money they’ll have after ten years if they save all their spare change at the end of every day, then take $7 out once a week and invest it (for this example we assume the interest rate is 2.2%) in an account at their credit union.

Here are the results of last month’s Instant Poll question:

College
Q:
Which scenario is most common (four or more days per week)?

a. Sit-down for a home cooked meal
b. Order out

Instant Poll Questions capture your high school members’ attention. On which issues would you like to learn more about what they think? Use your imagination and send your poll questions with possible responses to Rena Crispin.

September, October, and November 2007 lineup in Googolplex.

Give youth print and online newsletters!
Every quarter we send you enough ready-to-print pages to create three full newsletters – one for elementary-school, middle-school, and high-school level readers. We provide newsletters in high resolution for print, and low resolution for e-mail or online viewing.

These lively newsletter pages give your young members previews of stories, activities and comics for the coming three months. Use them to direct young readers to your credit union web site, so they can see what’s new in 5-Spot, AJ’s and C-Note.

IMPORTANT: You add your credit union logo and mailing information. You can print and distribute them, and also make them available as a link on your web site. Got that creative bug? Add your own stories, art, more pages, or customize in other ways - it’s up to you!

Here’s what you get:

  • Complete newsletter pages (in high resolution PDF and JPEG formats) for elementary through high school students. The newsletters feature comics, activities and teasers about stories and games for the coming three months.
  • All of those same newsletter pages in low-resolution PDF format for online and e-mail use.

Here’s how you get it:
To retrieve the ready-to-print, ready-to-view newsletter pages each quarter, log in to your Googolplex Set-up and Promotion page, select the pages you need, and download them free of charge.
