Anytime Adviser

Anytime Adviser - Spanish

A subscription to Anytime Adviser now includes Spanish versions of the coaches. The Spanish versions work the same way as the English versions with one exception—Spanish coaches do not have a transcript.

Spanish coach highlights

More than just translations, the Spanish coaches feature examples with Latino names and photography. We’ve used formal Spanish throughout, avoiding expressions unique to any single dialect. Our translator works with the World Council of Credit Unions and is highly aware of the sensitivity of dialects. We chose a Guatemalan narrator specifically for the neutral accent.

Even if no one at your credit union speaks Spanish, you can still offer Spanish coaches. Many Spanish speakers are bilingual, but prefer to read and listen to Spanish. In the event that you receive an e- mail from a member (or potential member) in Spanish, you can get a free rough translation from any of the sites listed below. You might try more than one, as they typically give different results. Also, some versions of Microsoft Word have language translators ( click Tools, Language, Translate).

If you respond to the member, be sure to mention that you do not speak Spanish and that you have used a translator. If the member has a pressing issue and does not speak English, encourage him or her to visit a branch with a friend or family member who can translate.

Why offer Spanish coaches?

Maybe you don’t think the communities you serve have many Spanish speakers. Think again. In fact, look up the Hispanic population for your area with U.S. Census data.

Even Hispanics who are fluent in English, may prefer to read Spanish rather than English. Your credit union has the opportunity to reach out to a growing market. By 2025, the two largest demographic segments in the U.S. will be Hispanics and the over 60 market. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) predicts that one-half of all the U.S. retail banking growth will come from the Hispanic market. Click here to learn more.

Further, after the November taxation hearings, it is clear that Congress expects credit unions to reach out to minorities, women, and those with low incomes.

How to reach out to Hispanics

For Anytime Adviser coaches, you can use the Spanish newsletter articles to drive Spanish speakers to your web site.

Also, frequently visit the Hispanic Resource Center maintained by CUNA. You’ll find news, resources, and links here.
